First, we chose to look at each product’s weight and dimension to determine how portable it was. We then analyzed it based on battery and camera type to get an idea of how powerful these two factors were. Next, we looked at flight time and range to determine the total distance the drone can reach.

1. DJI Phantom 4 Quadcopter -Best Overall, Runner-up

Features

The DJI Phantom 4 Quadcopter starts off our list. This small drone features a 4K Ultra-HD video feed and can capture 12.0 MP photos. It utilizes a f/2.8 lens to provide a broad, all-inclusive view with solid, clear videos.

This high-tech camera drone features Gimbal stabilizing technology to hover efficiently and remain stable while in the air. It also comes with built-in DJI director software which acts as a video editor. This video editor allows you to edit music, text, and videos in according to the images you capture, even while it is in flight.

The DJI Phantom 4 Quadcopter comes with a built-in GPS system which allows you to keep track it while it’s in flight. Its GPS system is also used when the drone’s auto takeoff and return feature is activated. With the auto takeoff and return function, there’s no need to worry about losing this flyer. When activated, this function guides it directly back to you.

The DJI Phantom 4 Quadcopter comes with built-in sensors for quickly sensing and avoiding obstacles. However, it struggles to detect smaller or thinner obstacles such as branches with few leaves or a spray of water. It’s important to note that this unit has an unusually long set-up time. While its batteries can last up to 28 minutes, they’re costly to replace.

The DJI Phantom 4 Quadcopter features an impressive max flight speed of up to 45 mph with a max flight time of roughly 28 minutes. This product also has a handy long-range transmission 3.1 miles or 5 kilometers. Because it weighs about 8.8 pounds, it’s both lightweight and comfortable to carry. With the drone’s visual tracking feature, you can track any moving object and follow it for as long as you’d like.

This camera drone comes with the following attachments and accessories: aircraft body, USB OTG cable remote controller, propeller pairs, micro USB cable, micro SD card (16GB), carrying case intelligent flight, battery, battery charger, power cable, manuals, and gimbals clamp.Pros

  • Long set-up time
  • Very expensive

The DJI Phantom 4 Quadcopter is one of our favorite camera drones on the list. It’s incredibly easy to use and maneuver. It also features a long lifespan as well as a long flight time. Unfortunately, it’s pricey.

2. Parrot Bebop 2 FPV Camera Drone – Best Value

Features

This unit features a fully immersive experience via its Parrot Cockpit glasses or FPV goggles. These glasses provide the 1st point of view experience that lets you see the world through your flight drone.

To do this, just download the FreeFlight Pro app on your phone and then slip your smartphone into the FPV goggles. Meanwhile, you can control the product from the comfort of your own home. This item also comes with a 3-axis digital stabilization system which provides stable, smooth footage.

The Parrot Bebop 2 FPV Camera Drone captures 1080P HD videos. It features a 14 MPX photo capability for wide-angle shots. You can also save video footage as RAW, DNG, or JPEG files. This product comes with a Parrot Skycontroller 2 which utilizes dual-joysticks to control the drone.

You can quickly start and stop both the camera and drone with a simple press of a button. Its anti-stall system prevents stalling and malfunctions while it is in flight. This unit also comes with a Return Home function. The Return Home feature guarantees that the drone returns to you no matter how far it may have wandered.

Unfortunately, there are some downsides to this product. The Parrot Skycontroller headset is large and bulky, making it a bit frustrating to wear. You will need to download an additional app to your tablet or Smartphone which takes up additional memory space. It can also be disorienting navigating the drone and the camera at the same time. The range for this device is limited when you control it with a tablet or Smartphone.

The Parrot Bebop 2 FPV Camera Drone weighs only 1.1 pounds, which makes it extremely lightweight. It has a max range of 1.2 miles and a max battery life of 25 minutes. When you decide to download the FreeFlight Pro App, you’re able to save your drone’s routes for future adventures. You can also chart out and save auto flight plans onto your phone via your app.

The Parrot Bebop 2 FPV Camera Drone is another crowd favorite. While it’s hard to maneuver, it’s 1st person point of view headset is worth it. It’s not a very expensive product and it’s guaranteed to last through any weather or obstacle.

3. Yuneec Typhoon H Pro 4k -Best Professional Camera Drone

Features

The Yuneec Typhoon H Pro 4k is the best camera drone for any explorer or adventurer. This advanced flyer comes with a 4K, 14.4m capable camera, and is equipped with six rotors which keep it secure and stable while in flight.

This also provides the camera an unobstructed, 360-degree view. It comes with a handy feature for perfect panoramic photo shots as well as an additional function to prevent time-lapse in shots. ItsOTA update feature allows for quick system upgrades.

The Yuneec Typhoon H Pro 4kis controlled via the ST16 Ground Station controller. This controller comes with a built-in 7-inch touch screen which provides live HD 720pfootage. The best part of the Yuneec Typhoon H Pro 4k is its automatic collision avoidance system. This drone’s patented Intel® Real Sense™ uses built-in sonar sensors to automatically avoidobstacles while in flight.

Another excellent feature is the Orbit Me flight mode. While in Orbit Me flight mode, the drone will record you while hovering around you in a circular pattern. It also features a Journey mode that sends the drone up and away (90 meters) for the perfect selfie.

The downside to the Yuneec Typhoon H Pro 4k is its wide-angle lens which distorts the edges of the camera, limiting its overall quality. The ST16 doesn’t feature a battery indicator which makes it hard to tell how much flight time you have left. This drone has a charge time of almost 2 hours, while the ST16 takes 8 hours to charge. Finally, it’s a little annoying that the collision avoidance system causes the drone to stop instead of dodge when encountering obstacles.

The Yuneec Typhoon H Pro 4k has a 25-minute battery life and a 1.6-kilometer range. This flight drone features an impressive point of interest mode that triggers it to hover autonomously around a subject. Its Follow Me/Watch Me mode prompts the Typhoon H Pro to follow and record you at a distance. Finally, its Home mode prompts the unit to return to you, no matter how far it has wandered.

This product package includes the following attachments and accessories: CGO3, gimbals camera, charger, battery, ST16 remote control, and adapter.Pros

It also has a cool hover feature that prompts the unit to drift backward while filming and then return automatically. It has 16GB of internal memory and utilizes an electronic image stabilizer to limit jerks and memory lapses while recording.

The ZEROTECH Dobby Pocket Selfie Drone’s 9-minute battery life is extremely disappointing. Because it’s small and made of plastic, it’s not the most durable unit on our list.

While its electronic image stabilizer limits jerks and time lapses, a strong gust of wind can quickly whip the whole thing away. It’s important to note that this product is a bit overpriced compared to many other drones in our review. Expect that your photos will be on par with that of a Smartphone

Compact and lightweight, the ZEROTECH Dobby Pocket Selfie Drone is easily the most portable unit on our list. It features a 328 feet range and 9 minutes of flying. This drone is also iOS and Android compatible. The Dobby Pocket Drone can perform single shots, beauty shots, timed photos, and burst shots of 2 to 15 photos. It can also record10-second audio tracks as well as short videos and HD. After recording or photographing, you can use the micro-USB port to save your files to a computer or tablet. • Susceptible to high bursts of wind and rain
  • A bit overpriced
  • Poor photography

The best thing about the ZEROTECH Dobby Pocket Selfie Drone is its compact size. However, the worst is the quality of its photos. The truth is that this item is a bit overpriced. It’s fun to play with, but it shouldn’t cost as much as it does.

Its Home mode prompts the drone to return to you, no matter how far it has wandered. The product includes a transport carrying case composed of sturdy, yet lightweight aluminum. The case also has a foam core for carefully carrying your drone and ST10+ controller.

Unfortunately, the Yuneec Q500 4K Typhoon Quadcopter is a bit slow. It also takes a while to respond to commands from the ST+ controls. Finally, it’s important to mention that replacement batteries are expensive. The drone itself is costly and the batteries are not inexpensive either. Thankfully, the drone comes with a free extra battery.

The Yuneec Q500 4K Typhoon Quadcopter Drone features a 25-minute battery life and a 1-kilometer range. It has a maximum flying height of 122 meters above the ground. Even though this product is designed for professionals, it’s a great option for 1st-time flyers. The ST10+ controller has fewer controls and buttons compared to many other Yuneec controllers. It doesn’t take long to master this using this unit.

Meanwhile, the low-battery auto-landing feature prompts the unit to land safely when it’s power draws low. It also comes with a Return to Take-off Point mode that triggers the drone to come back to where it initially took off.

The DJI Mavic Pro Fly More’s lens angle is not very wide. In super frigid conditions, the system’s lens may freeze or work sluggishly. For some, the cold affects the HD camera rotation. Last of all, it’s important to mention that this item is costly. Depending on where you purchase it, you can end up spending more than $1,000.

Overall, the DJI Mavic Pro Fly More is an impressive product. It has a maximum flying time of 27 minutes. Weighing 1.64 pounds, it’s both lightweight and portable. It can also detect obstacles at least 16 feet above and below it so that the drone can quickly dodge out of the way. Of course, the Sense and Avoid System is only active during RTH, regular flight, and various flight modes.

The DJI Inspire 2 Quadcopter comes with a unique feature called the Spotlight Pro. The Spotlight Pro is a handy tracking function that can track moving objects from a long distance. Other pre-set modes include  Point of Interest, Tap Fly, and Active Track mode.

The Point of Interest mode prompts the camera system and drone to both hover and take video of a certain object. Next, the Tap fly mode allows you to just tap a spot or location on the FPV camera screen built-into your controller. This will prompt the drone to  automatically fly towards that spot. Finally, the Active Track mode triggers the unit to track anobject at a distance.

It’s important to note that you’ll need a high-performance CPU to download and view videos recorded by this camera technology. This drone is very high-priced. In fact, it may be the highest-costing flight drone in our review. To make things worse, you’ll need to buy the Special Software License for $1,500 if you want to shoot 5.4k photos. Along with this, it’s complicated to set up and even more confusing to maneuver.

The DJI Inspire 2 Quadcopter has a maximum flying time of 27 minutes and a maximum range of 7 kilometers. Itsvisualrangeis set at 30 meters, and it has an average flying speed of 94 kilometers per hour. This popular camera drone comes with a Smart Return to Home feature that prompts it to return home. • Spotlight Pro

Cons

  • Extremely high pricetag
  • Requires the purchase of a Special Licensing agreement for 5.4K photo capture
  • Hard to maneuver and put together
  • Needs high-performance CPU to download and watch videos

It’s obvious that the DJI Inspire 2 Quadcopter is a high-quality product. However, it’s a bit too hard on the wallet. Unless you’re a professional photographer looking for that once-in-a-lifetime shot, I don’t think you need to invest in this unit.

It also comes equipped with an Intelligent Battery that offers higher voltage, more power, and long flight times. The battery has a built-in sensor which measures the battery’s life and lets you know how its status via bright LED lights.

It’s important to note that the DJI Phantom 3 Professional weighs about 9.2 pounds. This makes it one of the heaviest and bulkiest items in our review. According to many customer comments, DJI’s customer service leaves much to be desired. Apparently, they’re not very helpful and they can be a bit rude. Lastly, this product is a bit slow compared to many other units on our list.
